Event: A Day at Children’s Discovery Museum

Event Highlights:
More than 30 foster youth and their Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteers came together for a fun-filled group outing to the Children’s Discovery Museum. Through hands-on activities and the power of play, our youth tapped into their creativity and curiosity. The focus of the event was to offer a day of exploration and an opportunity for our CASAs and youth to interact with one another through developmentally appropriate activities.
Our youth enjoyed both exciting indoor and outdoor activities where they were able to explore the arts, sciences, build cultural awareness and more. Some of our youths’ favorite stations were:
- Waterways – Youth explored how splashing, play and pressure affect the direction of water flow. By tossing colorful balls over waterfalls and whirlpools and watching them travel through pulleys and tunnels, they experienced hands-on learning about water movement and gravity.
- Imagination Playground – CASAs encouraged youth’s imagination by helping them build bridges, buildings and more with oversized blocks. As youth stacked, rebuilt and tried again when structures fell, they practiced taking risks and celebrated each success. These moments nurtured imagination, problem-solving and perseverance.
- Bubbling Up! – Youth experimented with making big and small bubbles that float, multiply or shrink. As they explored, they learned how bubbles appear in everyday life, sparking curiosity, creativity and hands-on discovery.
After hours of play, youth recharged at iJAVA Cafe, whose generous donation of redeemable coupons provided each youth with a sandwich, juice and a fruit cup.
Thanks to the generosity of the Children’s Discovery Museum, our CASAs and the families of our foster youth receive yearlong museum memberships, providing them with unlimited access to explore, learn and create together. This membership includes entrance and a 20% discount on their cafe shop items. It is through community partnerships like these that we can continue providing our foster youth with positive childhood experiences that support their development and overall well-being. We look forward to continuing our visits and creating long-lasting positive memories for our foster youth.
