Event: O’Leary Golf Classic

Event Highlights:
On Monday, August 25, over 100 golfers and prominent Silicon Valley corporate and philanthropic leaders gathered to support foster youth at our 20th Annual O’Leary Golf Classic. The event brought together returning participants and first-time attendees, offering the perfect mix of networking and impact as participants SHOWED UP for foster youth on the golf course, raising over $200,000!
The day kicked off bright and early at 10:00 a.m. as participants checked in and picked up their Child Advocates of Silicon Valley’s branded speakers. Before teeing off, everyone enjoyed a boxed sandwich lunch and participated in our exciting raffle and Spin the Wheel game.
With bellies full, it was time to take on the 18-hole tournament! On the green, participants competed for both individual and team-based awards.

As the golfers completed the tournament, they returned to the clubhouse for a lively cocktail hour, setting the stage for our evening reception and dinner, where we would hear from our mission speaker, celebrate the day’s winners and cap off the event with an exciting live auction.
Once everyone was back from the course, the buffet dinner opened, and participants filled their plates before settling in for the evening program. While guests enjoyed their meals, Frederick Ferrer, CEO of Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, took the stage to share about our mission. He then invited Steve and Eric Shaw, sons of Walter ‘Skip’ Shaw, to present the award created in their father’s honor. Together, they announced the Richardson Family as the recipients of this year’s Walter ‘Skip’ Shaw Inspiration Award, recognizing their exceptional commitment to foster youth and two decades of support for this event. Following Fred, Court Appointed Special Advocate Volunteer (CASA) Volunteer Joe Nuñez delivered an inspiring speech on the importance of having role models and shared his personal experience as a CASA. With these inspiring words said, it was time for more fun with our live auction!
Altogether, this year’s event raised over $200,000, helping to ensure every child, youth and non-minor dependent (NMD) in Santa Clara County’s foster care system has the resources needed to thrive.
