9th Annual Foster5K +Kids Dash Raises Awareness for Foster Youth

On Saturday, April 26th, the 9th Annual Foster5K + Kids Dash was held at Martial Cottle Park. Over 300 runners registered this year, raising over $32,000 for Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and the foster children they serve. 

The event kicked off bright and early with participants convening for pre-race activities. Amidst the excitement, San Jose City Councilmember Pamela Campos welcomed all the participants and spoke passionately about the importance of SHOWING UP for foster kids, something she knows about intimately having previously served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer. At 9 am, the race officially started, accompanied by cheers from Andrew P. Hill High School cheerleaders. Just 18 minutes and 47 seconds later, our first runner, Hrishi Patel, dashed across the finish line! Following the run, participants passed by our snacks and refreshment booths courtesy of Moss Adams.

As participants engaged in the different activities, placed their bib numbers in raffle ticket boxes and consumed refreshments, the Kids Dash was announced! At 9:50 am Kids gathered at the start of their 750-meter dash and raced against each other to the finish line. After the race, kids participated in various activities, from face painting to hacky sack games. Participants also enjoyed a plank contest from StartLiveFit, music from DJ HiSoul and Dj Pauly, a photo booth and more!

The 9th Annual Foster5K + Kids Dash was possible thanks to the work of our board members and the Foster5K Committee. We would also like to extend immense gratitude to all of our event donors, sponsors, volunteers and runners for SHOWING UP for foster youth.
