Our marquee fundraising event of the year was one for the ages. The Black, White & Pink Ball, held at the Corinthian Grand Ballroom in downtown San Jose on Saturday, June 1, 2024, was a huge success. 220 guests SHOWED UP and showed out for our foster youth raising nearly $300,000.
As the evening began, our elegantly dressed guests made a grand entrance, walking the red carpet. Inside, they were greeted with drinks, appetizers, a photo booth and a bevy of event offerings; from raffles to wine pulls, guests had every opportunity to join in the fun and support of foster kids. As they waited for the grand ballroom’s doors to open, the room buzzed with excitement, creating an environment full of laughter and joy.
Once all of our guests checked in, it was time to begin the main event! The grand ballroom’s doors opened and our guests quickly settled into their tables. To begin the program, our board members Steve Hoffman and Jeannette Guinn welcomed everyone with gratitude for attending our Black, White & Pink Ball and supporting Silicon Valley’s foster youth.
After dinner was served, the event kicked into high gear with a fun game of heads or tails, where the last person standing won a prize. This was followed by the presentation of the 2024 Community Spirit Award, presented to Lisa Sobrato Sonsini for her unwavering support of Child Advocates and the children we serve. Lisa’s involvement with Child Advocates spans over 30 years. She served on the board of directors and held the position of board chair, volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and continues to provide financial support. She truly is an Advocate for foster children and youth.
Following Lisa’s acceptance speech, Tracy Warman-Gries, current CASA Volunteer and mission speaker of the night, took the stage accompanied by one of her therapy dogs.. Tracy shared moving stories about her service to foster youth and highlighted the profound impact therapy dogs have on the lives of the foster youth she works with. Tracy and Lisa’s speeches exemplified the commitment it takes to LIFT UP foster youth.
Continuing the event’s excitement, our dynamic auctioneer, Freddie Silveria led the live auction. Guests eagerly bid on unique items such as a personal chef experience, luxurious trips to Italy and Capitola and more. Guests also had the opportunity to answer the call by raising their paddle and donating in our Call to Action fundraiser.
Radio Gatsby, a vintage-style band with a contemporary edge, closed out the program as guests danced the night away.
