8th Annual Foster5K +Kids Dash Raises Awareness for Foster Youth

On Saturday, April 28th, the 8th Annual Foster5K + Kids Dash was held at Martial Cottle Park. About 400 runners registered this year, raising over $50,000 for Child Advocates of Silicon Valley and the foster children they serve. 

The event kicked off bright and early with participants convening for pre-race activities, including organized stretching with members of 49ersFit. Amidst the excitement, at 9 am the race officially started, accompanied by cheers from Andrew P. Hill High School cheerleaders. Just 15 minutes and 37 seconds later, our first runner, Jorge Cruz, dashed across the finish line! Following the run, participants passed by our snacks and refreshment booths courtesy of, Outdoor Supply Hardware and Moss Adams.

As participants engaged in the different activities, placed their bib numbers in raffle ticket boxes and consumed refreshments, the Kids Dash was announced! At 9:50 am Kids gathered at the start of their 750-meter dash and raced against each other to the finish line. After the race, kids participated in various activities, from birdhouse painting to seeing the fire truck from the San Jose Fire Department. Participants also enjoyed massages from Movement Performance Therapy, music from DJ HiSoul and Dj Pauly, cornhole games and more!

The 8th Annual Foster5K + Kids Dash was possible thanks to the work of our board member, Kate Faherty, and the Foster5K Committee. We would also like to extend immense gratitude to all of our event donors, sponsors, volunteers and runners for SHOWING UP for foster youth.
