Child Advocates Turns Office into Carnival-themed Event

Event: Kidstravaganza

Date: April 27, 2024

Location: Child Advocates of Silicon Valley

Population Served: Foster youth ages 3+

Event Highlights:

On Saturday, April 27th, foster kids and their Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteers, a total of 28 participants, had a blast at our KIDSTRAVAGANZA event! As attendees arrived they were welcomed with carnival tickets, prize bags, and the magic of carnival-themed decorations.

With nearly 20 lively carnival stations, foster kids and their CASAs bonded by participating in engaging activities that nurtured the kids’ fine motor skills and literacy abilities. From face painting to capturing memories at our photo booth, our youth enjoyed a day of whimsical fun! These activities supported foster youth by providing them with opportunities to build social connections with their CASAs and other foster youth, engaging in physical activities and providing learning experiences through reading.

Throughout our indoor stations, we had arts and crafts provided by Santa Clara University Future Child Advocates, balloon animals from Dottie the Clown, connect fours, a book table and scavenger hunts. But our CASAs and foster kids weren’t the only ones that made it to our KIDSTRAVAGANZA, our furry friends, therapy dogs from Canine Companions, also joined the festivities! Youth also enjoyed literacy and experienced the thrill of storytelling thanks to our longtime community partner Red Ladder Theatre Company, who provided our youth with an activity station and a storytime station where they read books aloud in English and Spanish.

Continuing the excitement, foster youth enjoyed the sunny weather through sports and water activities at our outdoor stations.  Attendees delighted in every station as they engaged with relay races provided by Allera Sports and water activities such as Fish Bowl Frenzy and Duck Pond Games. Out of all of the outdoor activities, our youth had the most fun in their favorite station, the bounce house!

After hours of play, completing arts and crafts activities and bonding with their CASAs, it was time for lunch! Foster youth spent time building their very own charcuterie cups by cutting out cheese with star-shaped cookie cutters and decorating their cups using meats, vegetables and fruits.

This event was made possible thanks to our supportive staff, CASA Volunteers, and most importantly, our community partners who participated in the event. Our community partners for this event include Canine Companions, Red Ladder Theatre Company, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, Santa Clara University Future Child Advocates, Adolescent Counseling Services and Allera Sports. We also want to extend our gratitude to our vendors Didi Pham and Dottie the Clown ( Roberta Navarro). Thank you all for SHOWING UP for our foster youth.
