Registration is open for the eighth annual Foster5K & Kids Dash, a fundraiser for Child Advocates of Silicon Valley. The April 28 event supports the Milpitas-based nonprofit’s Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program for foster youth.

Nearly 500 kids, teenagers and adults came out for last year’s event. “Seeing how far we’ve come since our first event in Los Altos in 2017, through all kinds of challenges, really shows how much people care about helping foster kids,” volunteer Debbie Crouse said in a statement.

This year’s 5K starts at 9 a.m., followed by a Kids Dash at 10 a.m. at Martial Cottle Park, 5283 Snell Ave. in San Jose. The event features DJs and raffle prizes.

Register at foster5k.org or get involved as a volunteer by emailing info@foster5k.org.

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley swore in 30 new Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers at the agency’s main office in Milpitas on Tuesday, March 19. All graduates completed 30 hours of pre-service training in a hybrid format with in-person and virtual presentations on various topics, including child development and outcomes planning. Additionally, the graduates attended a mandatory tour of the court.

The training process concluded on Tuesday evening with a swear-in ceremony by the honorable Shawna Schwarz, supervising judge of the Santa Clara County Dependency Court.
