20 foster youth and their Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteers joined our team for the sixth annual Spring Party on Ice event. The event occurred at the Sharks Ice Rink on Saturday, April 15, 2023, and was made possible by the generosity of the Santa Clara Blackhawks.
Attendees enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon making new friends in and out of the ice rink. During the event, honorary volunteers from the Santa Clara Blackhawks provided lunch and special one-on-one ice skating lessons for kids and CASAs from San Mateo, Alameda and Santa Clara County. The Santa Clara Blackhawks also donated free jerseys for the kids to wear as they took to the ice to skate, most for the first time. There was even a special guest appearance by the San Jose Sharks official mascot, Sharkie, who ice skated alongside our kids and CASAs. After ice skating, the day concluded with goody bags for the kids to take home, such as stuffed animals, sports equipment and gift cards.
Social gatherings, like the Spring Party on Ice event, create a supportive environment to let children explore something new with their CASA Volunteers, which helps develop trust and positive relationships with one another.
The event was successful thanks to our supportive staff, CASA Volunteers, the Santa Clara Blackhawks, and most importantly, CASA Mentor, Jessica Lee, who coordinated the event.
