Child Advocates of Silicon Valley Announces the Appointment of a New Board Member

MILPITAS, CA — Child Advocates of Silicon Valley is pleased to announce the appointment of new board member, Wayne Smith, Western US Finance Director for LSG Sky Chefs, effective September 16, 2020. 

“We are pleased to welcome Wayne as a new board member. He brings a wealth of experience in finance and fundraising that will be a tremendous asset to us as we continue our efforts to be there for every foster child,” said Frederick J. Ferrer, CEO of Child Advocates, “Additionally, as an adoptive parent of four boys, Wayne understands firsthand the impact a caring adult can have on a foster child and is committed to helping us ensure every foster child has a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer.” 

Smith will serve on the board’s fundraising committee and assist with planning the strategic direction of the development department. His finance experience will help Child Advocates develop creative strategies to increase fundraising efforts and create sustainable funding that will strengthen operations and recruitment of CASA Volunteers.  

Child Advocates has a diverse, active board that represents a range of professional expertise in technology, child welfare, law, business planning, accounting and fundraising. It is the Board’s responsibility to provide counsel and oversight in the direction and operation of Child Advocates as well as raise awareness of our CASA program to help recruit potential volunteers and donors. 

About Wayne Smith  
Wayne Smith is the Western US Finance Director for LSG Sky Chefs, a global catering company serving the Airline and Rail industry with over $1.5 Billion in annual revenue. In this role he supports both the Operations and Finance organization of the company. Wayne’s experience spans 30+ years working in various Finance roles primarily in the Food Manufacturing industry. He is seen as an innovative leader with a proven record of bridging Finance and Operations, and advancing the business environment through progressive challenges and creating an environment of growth. Outside of work he is an active member of his community with years of creative fundraising experience. He has served as Board Treasurer for the San Francisco Gay Softball League with over 800 members. Wayne is also an adoptive parent of four boys all from the foster system in the San Jose area, has worked with Child Advocates for his own children so understands the value the organization brings to the youth of Silicon Valley.

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley is an independent nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization created in 1986. We serve children aged birth to 21 years old who are placed in the Santa Clara County Dependency Court System for having experienced trauma in the form of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. We are responsible for operating the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program in Santa Clara County according to the national guidelines, which entails recruiting, training and supporting CASA Volunteers.
