Donate Items

Donate To Our CASA Store
The Child Advocates of Silicon Valley main office is home to “The Store”, a dedicated room filled with new items for foster children. These include: new clothes, shoes, school supplies, backpacks, indoor and outdoor activity supplies and equipment, skateboards and helmets, games, puzzles, toys, dolls, blankets, make-up, toiletries, wallets, purses, — all free for our CASA Volunteers to give to their foster children.  We always need gift cards to supplement what we might be missing for our foster children.  Gift cards for “where to eat, where to shop or what to do” are always welcome.

You can SHOW UP for our foster children during the holiday season by purchasing a gift(s) from our Child Advocates Wish List.

To make an in-kind or a monetary donation to The Store, please contact Development@childadvocatessv.org or call 408-573-5604.

Donate Tickets and Gift Cards
Since CASA Volunteers are not reimbursed for the cost of activities they share with their child, we encourage donors to give event tickets to community plays, sporting events and movie theaters so the CASA Volunteers can treat their child to a fun outing. Gift cards are always welcome — especially during the holiday season. Gifts cards to Kohl’s, Target and Walmart are particularly popular with our teens. Gift cards can be mailed or dropped off between 9 am – 5 pm M-F at our office.

Donate Your Car
Donating your car, truck, van, SUV, boat, motorcycle, ATV, RV, trailer or airplane to benefit a charity has never been easier! Cars Inc. provides vehicle donation services for us. Simply give them a call and trained staff will guide you through the donation process. They take care of everything — including pick-up, sale, and tax deduction. For more information, call 855-500-RIDE (7433) or email info@childadvocatessv.org.

Donate Stocks & Securities

Child Advocates of Silicon Valley welcomes gifts of stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds. Any long-term appreciated securities with unrealized gains (meaning they were purchased over a year ago, and have a current value greater than their original cost) may be donated to a public charity and a tax deduction taken for the full fair market value of the securities — up to 30% of the donor’s adjusted gross income.

Planned Giving

As a supporter of Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, you understand the importance of the work our CASA Volunteers do in providing advocacy for foster children who have experienced abuse and neglect. You can create a lasting legacy of hope for these children through a planned gift to Child Advocates of Silicon Valley, helping to ensure this important work continues for years to come, while also receiving significant tax and other benefits. Simply put,a planned gift is any gift, made in lifetime or at death, as part of a donor’s overall financial and/or estate planning. There are many ways to make a planned gift. Below are some of the more common ways.

Bequests Through Your Estate Planning Documents
Including Child Advocates of Silicon Valley in your will and/or living trust can be an easy and financially responsible way to make a legacy gift. Bequests may be in any amount and may be either designated for a specific purpose or unrestricted. If you are considering making a gift by bequest, please discuss with your attorney first. Then, if appropriate, update your documents.

Gifting Retirement Funds
You can have a positive impact on children’s lives far into the future by naming Child Advocates of Silicon Valley as primary or contingent beneficiary of an IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement account. Also, since Congress passed a tax bill that permanently extends the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) provision, people over age 70½ are able to transfer up to $100,000 from their IRA to charity and have it count as their required minimum distribution without increasing their adjusted gross income. Please consult your attorney regarding considerations when making this type of gift.

Gifting Insurance Policies
Life insurance may be used to create a legacy by naming Child Advocates of Silicon Valley as beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of the policy. This requires you to complete a change of beneficiary form with your insurance company. Other options include outright gifts of appreciated property (securities or real estate), charitable lead trusts, charitable remainder trusts, or gifts of/from a pooled income fund or annuity.

For more information about planned giving opportunities, please contact Development@childadvocatessv.org.

Support Our Endowment

The Child Advocates of Silicon Valley Endowment Fund ensures the future of our programs. It provides a permanent source of funding to ensure that children in the foster care system – not only today, but in the future, are served by a consistent, caring adult. The Fund is separate from other Child Advocates of Silicon Valley funds and is managed by a professional investment advisor. Each gift creates a long-term financial resource that helps protect the future of the children in our community.
